More than 20 million Americans – some 7% of us – have diabetes, a disease involving too much sugar (glucose) in the bloodstream.

Blood sugar is the body’s fuel, and we get it primarily from our food. Levels of blood sugar rise after we eat, but soon after eating the pancreas begins to pump out a hormone called insulin. Insulin helps to move the sugar from the bloodstream and into the hungry cells. Normally, the pancreas will pump out just as much insulin as necessary to keep the blood sugar at the proper levels, so the sugar doesn’t rise too high or fall too low.

Without the help of insulin, the blood sugar can’t enter into most kinds of cells. Instead, it continues to build up in the bloodstream, even while the hungry cells are dying to be fed. We call this condition diabetes mellitus or just diabetes.

Diabetes can happen for two reasons. Either the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin (type 1 diabetes) or the insulin can’t do its job effectively (type 2 diabetes). In either case, the presence of all of that extra blood sugar can severely damage the blood vessels, heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves and other parts of the body.

The treatment for either type of diabetes includes a carefully balanced diet, weight loss and exercise. But millions of people also need medication to keep their blood sugar under control. Anti-diabetes medications work in different ways. Some, like glipizide (Glucotrol) and repaglinide (Prandin), stimulate the pancreas to release more insulin in an attempt to move the glucose out of the bloodstream and into the cells. Others, like metformin (Glucophage), decrease production of glucose in the liver. Still others, like miglitol (Glyset),slow the digestion and absorption of sugars from food. And there are insulin injections, which are used for those with Type 1 diabetes and those with Type 2 who haven’t responded to other medications.

Nutrients Depleted
It’s vital to follow your doctor’s instructions and take your medicines. But it’s just as important to remember that the medicines used to keep blood sugar under control can rob the body of folic acid, Coenzyme Q10, vitamin E and vitamin B12.

Symptoms of Nutrient Depletion
What happens when you don’t have enough of these nutrients? The symptoms are many and varied, and may include:

  • Folic acid – fatigue, weakness, irritability, diarrhea, fetal abnormalities
  • Coenzyme Q10 – heart problems.
  • Vitamin E – anemia, muscle and nerve problems, infertility
  • Vitamin B12 – weakness, fatigue, sore tongue, back pain, depression

The Formula
Formula 102 is designed to protect your body from the damage diabetes drugs can cause by robbing your body of key nutrients – and then some. Containing coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, folic acid, vitamin B12 and additional helpful substances, Formula 102 guards against a deficiency of the nutrients robbed by diabetes drugs, and helps preserve and protect your health.
